This was keeping up last night because I wanted to get a mixture of Resin an microballons over the skirts before the layup dried. I stayed up till about midnight checking the progress of the skirts but they where a little wet yet. Oh well wait till morning. First thing this morning (6am) I went out the Airplane factory and found the skirts to be in pretty good shape but almost fully dry. As I thought, there was a little valley where I bridged the gap with Tape between the fuselage and canopy. Not a big deal! I mixed up a batch of Resin and microballoons or Glass bubbles. These bubbles are actually hollow glass spheres. These balloons displace 4-6 times their weight in most resins and improve the handling characteristics of the base resin. I Mixed the resin and hardener as directed, then folded in the glass bubbles. Upon cure, a strong, low-density product results which is easy to sand and file. It filled the low spots nicely. This stuff is really easy to work with. I used a flexible squeegy thingy to spread it in. The first batch was the Consistancy of peanut butter. I was setting up too quick. The second batch I made it a bit thinner. Maybe like White glue paste. Update: 10:30 am, if the piece your patching with Microballoons is verticle, stay with the Peanut butter consistancy. Mine ran a little on that side. Nothing that can't be sanded.
First batch like Peanut butter
It was early and I was having a bad hair day. I grabbed the SBC hat.
The second side was a bit easier with the consistancy of Glue paste.
