Brief Description:  GPS/TruTrak Auto Pilot

Yesterday I messed around with the GPS and TruTrak Pictorial Flight Auto Pilot. Since the Harness is in I thought it would be a good idea to check to see if the TruTrak would see the GPS output. The TruTrak should read OFF in the digital display when there is data coming in from the GPS. Nothing doing.. No signal. So I poared over the drawing and something just didn't look right. The Harness was wired from the TruTrak Pin 3 to Pin 10 on the GPS. Pin 10 is a Input for an external GPS if needed. Hmmm better call TruTrak to double ckeck. I think it should be on Pin 11 of the GPS. I called TruTrak this morning and sure enough, it should be on Pin 11 which is the out put from the GPS signal. When I got home from work the first thing I did was pull the wire/pin out of the connector. I first had to pull the connector of the cage because I couldn't get my pin extractor behind the cage. Reinserted the wire in Pin 11 and wolla, the Auto Pilot now read OFF meaning it is receiving a signal. Now, to get a GPS reading the Plane needs to be moving with a ground track... Hmmm, can't push the plane around in the Garage or can I...??? Well, the KMD150 has a Demo mode which you can simulate any flight plan. I set up a course from West Bend to Fon du Lac and right o way the TruTrak read the Compass Track. I'm glad I found this problem now and not later. I'm going to test every piece of electronics prior to putting the top on this sucker.
