Brief Description:  Dynon EFIS D100

The Dynon D100 EFIS was waiting for me when I got home tonight so I went to town on Bench testing it. Like a kid at Christmas I just had to see it in aciton. The screen was better then expected. The resolution is fantastic. In about 2 minutes I had familiarized myself with the functionality. Since I had done the same thing with the D10A, this was a snap. Not much different other than size. SIZE DOES MATTER! So that's what they meen... I couldn't remember if the EMS firmware version alowed the EMS to display the EFIS information so I hooked up DSAB A and B to the appropriate ends on the EFIS Harness. No worky! So I built a NULL modem cable (Installation manual says this is how to do it for now) which is a cross over serial cable. It crosses 2-3 and contects 5-5 on each end, thats all it is. Plugged it in to the Serial ends and it worked as advertized. When the #6 button on the EMS is pushed it swapped the Engine moitor to the EFIS. It's just a Slave display for most (Not all) of the EFIS information. As I was messing around with the display screens I did find something that was unusual. The EFIS showed "Remote Compass not detected" at the top of the screen. This was fine since it wasn't installed. What I found unusual was that the EMS (In EFIS mode) was showing a HDG indication at the top where it should be. It even followed the movement of the EFIS when I turned it in my hand. I remembered that the D10A had a remote compass but I wasn't sure about the D100. If it has one, then why would it only show on the EMS display. Made a call to Dynon (Ron) and he was stumped by this. After he talked to his Engineers he called me back and told me that there indeed was a Software Bug and this should not be happening. It will be fixed in the next Firmware release. The people at Dynon are Great to work with.
