Brief Description:  Engine Prep 1

I called Jack Beck the other day to let him know that the Big day was going to happen. Jack and his Wife Marmi are building a RV9A in Germantown. They have just finished the Tail kit and are waiting for the Standard build wings to show up. Jack and his son Jacob showed up just in time to see the prep work that Dick and I had started. Jacob seems to be very intersted in the process. I think we have a builder/Flyer in the makings. We followed the instructions from a reliable source which told us to Install the Top Right Bolt first, then Top left then Bottom Right then finish with the Bottom left. Dick didn't think this sounded correct but from the other people that had done it this way we decided to go with that plan. We got the first three in with relatively no problems but the fourth (Top left) was a bear. From the plans (Non Vans) we tighened all three up then attempted align the top left. It seemed pretty close but we cjust could not get it to line up. We then backed off the others a little at a time to see if it would make it any easier but when all said and done, having them all tight lined it up the best. So between Dick and I giving it tries we finally got it. Dick made up a Store bolt with a tappered end (Grinded down) and drove it through to line up the Lord mounts with the engine but it seems that the Top washer was giving us the fit. I gave it one more shot with the bot lightly tapping it and WHAM it went through. Yah!!
