Brief Description:  Replaced Landing lights with HID

I purchased the HID MR-16 upgrade kit from Duckworks last week and intalled them the other day. Pretty straight forward. Removed the entire Position/landing light unit from the wing tip. Removed the MR-16 halogen bulb and replaced with the new MR-16 HID bulb. Placed the ballast unit at the out board wing rib with 3 screws. All that was needed was to line it up and mark the holes. The Ballast has the threads so no nutplates needed. Just had to reach in the inside of the wing with a screw driver and tighten. There is also a small black box (igniter) that is between the ballast and bulb. It needs to find a home so it doesn't flop around in the wing tip. I installed the 50w ballast. Only 4.5 amps per side. That's about 2.5 amps less than the halogens per side. Extremely bright, white light, Less heat generation, Light weight, less than 1 pound and ‘Lifetime’ HID bulb (no filament to burn-out). The only thing now is that I had to disconnect the Aeroelectric design Wig Wags. DW does have a Wig Wag unit for these but not ready to dump $125 more. The added brightness will be enough for now.
