Back to the VS rivet. The last several rivets in my test sequence had major smiling. Previous experience taught me the best way to avoid smiles is to keep the cup set on the rivet until the gun has completely stopped, which I was doing. Then I realized I'm using a 1/8 cup set on a 5/32 rivet head, duh. Called around to see if anyone has a 5/32 cup set I could borrow. The local EAA chapter 80 folks will check and bring one to this Monday's meeting, if they have one. Otherwise it's $23 plus shipping to the fine folks at Cleaveland Tool (I'm not being sarcastic, they are great).
Spent time squaring and fluting ribs. Every pilot hopes to say from their deathbed that they never bent any metal, ie, had an accident. So the first time I worked a rib it was "Holy crap, I'm bending metal!" Despite my trepidation, it was much easier than I expected. I must give credit to Cleaveland Tool and their helpful how-to videos. They are easy to find on YouTube. Here is the video on fluting:
