Brief Description: rudder finished
the rudder was completely cleco'd to test-fit the skin. took out all cleco's, alumprep'd the inside nose-skin and sprayed zinc oxide. Slighty heavier in the areas where there would be metal-metal contact and a thinner coat everywhere else.
For the trailing skin, alumiprep (scrubbing with scotch brite), hosed it off, painted on alodine along the metal-metal contact areas.. it was a little warm out today, so i kept re-painting in an attempt not to let it dry. after it was alodined for a 3-4 minutes, i hosed it off. once dry, i zinc oxide'd it.. interior surface only, moderate coat on metal-metal areas, light coat everywhere else.
some people only paint the mating surfaces, but i feel that there is little weight gain with a light coat. especially considering the rudder's surface area.
