The Bing carb does a pretty good job of leaning, they say it will work from sea level to 20,000 feet. I think in reality it's sea level to 10,000 feet. In order to do this you really need to be a little lean on the needle jet at sea level to keep from being over rich at altitude. If you normally climb to 3,000 feet or above it won't be a problem as the climb will be on the main jet and the cruise on the needle jet which will be just right at this altitude. Since I do a lot of formation flying at 1,000 feet I need to be jetted perfect at sea level which makes the engine pretty rich at 6,000 feet and above. The engine performs fine this way but with the cost of fuel I would like a little more control. I thought about a throttle body injection as a matter of fact I bought an Ellison TBI which I planned on installing after phase 1 was completed. After flying the Bing I realized that allthough it had some shortcomings there is a whole lot it does very well so I decided to work with it. I bought the Hackman many months ago but until recently I hadn't found a way to install it that I would be happy with. I started by making a U bracket for the controller. With this bracket I can mount it on the bottom of the switch panel without the knob sticking way out. Next I wanted to pass the vacuume lines through the firewall without drilling large holes and using rubber gromets. I got a couple of double barb fittings from Lowes and built a bracket that would capture the barbs then riveted it to the firewall.
