Brief Description:  Installed Nav Antenna

Removed the vertical stab and rudder to install a nav antenna. Removed the plastic fairing and located a spot for the antenna. I was worreid that I would have to face it forward but the bulkhead I attached it to was low enough that the wires were below the rudder not much but just enough. the bulkhead is pretty thin so I made a plate out of .050 2024 that I riveted to the bulkhead. Mounted nutplates in the bulkhead and drilled holes for the antenna to exit the stab. Shimmed the antenna base up with 3 thick washers. Three in the front and two in the rear would be better for more rudder clearance but right now I have 3 and 3. Made a section of coax about a foot longer than the stab. Drilled a hole in the fuselage which matches up with the forward lightning hole in the stab. Installed a gromet and reinstalled the stab and rudder. Ran a coax from the tail to the sl30. Ground checked the nav radio and it checks out OK. A lot of work to do after the fact, but I wanted a vor and loc/gs and now I do.
