Brief Description:  Completed a Second Vans Training Kit.

A futher order arrived from Avery on Thursday containing among other things, a 1/8 vice grip dimpler which allows access to the flange holes at the narrow end of the smal ribs. I was expecting to do these with a pop rivet dimple tool, but I could not get the nail through the hole due to the proximity of the other flange. With the arrival of the tool, I was able to get that job done and start attaching the skins.

Once that had been completed, the completion of the kit was pretty quick, using the pneumatic squeezer for the external rivets. I made a bit of a mess with the leadig edge forming, but wasnt too bothered as this was only a training exercise. The rod I used was not quite wide enough and the tape I was using was not quite strong enough to do the job well. When trying to reattach the rod, I kinked one surface which was very annoying... My great enemy when I did this kit at the Narromine training course was the trailing edge, which I struggled with. This time it went very well and If it had been Prosealed, I think t would have been perfect. As it was I was happy with it.

The biggest lessons I have learned durig the construction of this kit were:
- The value of working consistently. Speed kills, but putting a big gap into a piece of work also causes problems. Plan ahead and have the right tools and the right components when a new section of work is started. I need to make sure that I keep doing a bit of work regularly, rather than doing big bursts with big gaps between. Waiting for the right tool to arrive will cause frustration and will lead to mistakes. Maybe it is just me...

- Doing an Alodine and Primer dry run before working on the real kit was invaluable as a confidence builder. I painted alodine on first time and it went blue as a result of the coating being less than adequate (same as letting it dry out as I understand it). I will be spraying from a trigger spray gun at my next attempt. Had I not learned this here, my first attempt would have been a great big blue mess. (Update: Having us
