Brief Description:  Technical inspection of the Elevators.

It was time to get a second opinion on my work on the elevators so I arranged to catch up with Ken Garland in Camden today. I drove to Camden after work to catch up. We talked about a number of topics, including:

The use of the Cherry Monel rivets- Ken believes that using additional metal types in the airframe is not good practice as the greater possibility of galvanic corrosion. This is something I had not thought about, but I assume that Vans had in their response. I have since checked it out and while I absolutely agree in principle, I am confident I dont have a problem here. Having said that, they are now on my list to be regularly reviewed.

Use of Stewart Systems on external surfaces. Ken has had his vampire painted using the Stewart Systems primer I have been using for internal work. His paint shop was ok with it and so I may give a couple of parts a shot.

We looked at the F-1011 Bulkhead as clecoed to assess any potential impact of the imperfections in the edge of the HS attachment bars. No issue.

Overall, he gave all the parts a clean bill of health. Good news...

One of the advantages of going to Camden to see ken is that I et to go to Bunnings where I was able to pick up a couple of spare band saw blades. I took them home and installed them. In the process, I managed to strip the tension bolt. Luckily I had a shorter one that will do the job until such time as a replacemen m6x40 turns up.

Ordered off ebay.
