Brief Description:  Reworked HS Front Attachment Points

Ryan and I redid the front attachment points today using the IFlyRV10 attachment points. It was very disappointing to replace my hand made brackets as they were very well made, however, having assessed the smile on one of them caused from my original one man riveting attempt and knowig their criticality, I just felt that I needed to change them over. I changed both to ensure I had a good matched set.

Working with a bucking partner on this task made it substantially easier than the fist time round. There is a risk with these attachment points and that is: The proximity of the other rivets to the bucking bar creates a real risk of damaging the shop head while doing a rivet further along in the process. There are a couple of points that are of interest here:

1. You need to make sure that the bucking bar is well protected on the edges. You also need to be careful that you do not damage the spar cap when you are working on the rivets that are sitting on the web.

2. Thinking back over it, it would actually make a lot of sense if the manufactured head was on the web and the shop head on the attachment. The only problem I can see is if I had put that smile in the spar web, I would have felt compelled to start again on the spar, rather than just throwing out the attachment block... Maybe not such a good idea.
