I made the foolish mistake of thinking that I could do the attachment blocks by myself today and I ended up paying for my conceit... I was bucking and driving at the same time as Ryan was not available. I should have waited. The gun was turned up pretty high to facilitate the task of driving the AN470AN4-9 and 10 rivets. During one of them, I bounced off and ended up with a very large smile in the attachment block. I spent some time thinking about this and decided to drill it out for a good look. The result was that the smile is about 8 thou deep. While there is nothing that I can find in AC-43-13-1B or in MIL-R-47196A that quantifies the depth of a smile that is ok or not ok, I made the decision that I needed to replace the part so I drilled the other four rivets out again and will replace the part. Not a good decision to go ahead with the riveting without my rivet buddy... I have not drilled out a rivett anything like as big as these. So I ended up thinking about the problem for a couple of days before commiting to the metal.
