Practice BNC Connections

I did some practice BNC connectors just using RG59C and some cheap connectors today, just to check that I have the correct tools. Which I dont... I have a generic BNC crimper which does a poor job. I will make sure I get a replacement crimper before doing a real one...

VOR Antenna BNC Connector Hole Enlargement

While doing this, I realised that the hole that I had in the top rib, while adequate for the connector on the VOR antenna puck, it would not faciliate the extraction of the cable connector to allow the actual connection to be made. So I had used the unibit to drill it out to about 3/4". Now the cable is able to be extracted to actiually perform the connection. Having drilled, I had to then re prime. I used an Alodine Touch-n-prep 1132 for the first time in anger. Then I ran some Stewart primer over it with a cotton bud. 20 minutes later all done.

Conduit attachment

I cut a length of conduit to run down through the VS nose between the top and bottom ribs. In order to get it through the hole in the top rib, I split three segments longitudinally allowing it to be overlapped to pass it through the smaller hole. I then sealed it with RTV and an ice cream stick.

run down through the nose ribs and used RTV to hold it in place.
