Brief Description: Troubleshooting Radio Installation
When testing the headset box that I built, I found an issue with the pilot side microphone jack, (or so I thought...)
After taking apart the box and checking the wiring to the jack, I then traced it back to the splice that I made when I extended the wiring; still no luck. The wiring terminated at the radio side with a 15 pin d-sub connector which can NOT be taken out without taking the tray out of my radio stack! So, I ended up taking the stack partially apart and then taking out the SL-40 tray.
I checked the continuity of each pin to its wire and everything STILL was ok! I called Gulf Coast Avionics and asked for help. They were very easy to talk to and after reviewing the whole process that I went through, we determined that it must be the radio.
So…. Seven hours later, I ended up with nothing done, but an empty radio tray back in my stack!
