Brief Description: Fitting elevators to horizantial stabilizer
Today I set out to finish attaching the fiberglass tips on both of the elvevators using blind rivets. Then I sanded the tips around the counterbalance weight. The finish was very nice but will require a small amount of filler. I used my dreel tool to cut our part of the HS606 spar where the elevator horns travel through. I then mounted the elevators to the horizantial stabilizer and checked the deflection and both elevators had free travel. I then used the drill guide that my buddy Danny Armstrong made for me (1/4 inch ODx3?32ID) to drill the #40 pilot hole in the elevator horn. Once both elevators were pilot drilled, I took the elevators off and final drilled the elevator horns to #12. I then used scotch brite pads to scuff the surfaces of both elevators and the horizantial stabilizer in preparation for priming. In the next session I will work on the horizantial stabilizer tips that will require some fiberglass work. I'm looking forward to getting to work on those.
