Brief Description: Corvair case
|
|
I bought this case online from a person who prepared it for an aircraft engine. I am not sure I am going to use it. I is in good shape but I'm thinking about changing my plans for my engine. I'm not switching from the corvair, but am deciding on big bore and/or stroke increase. I have ordered a billet crank from Brady at Magnificent Machine but am still deciding weather or not to do the stroke crank. He has three options; stock, 3.125 and 3.250. The 3.125 by 92mm gives you approx 3100cc which I think might be a better option than stock x 94mm bore (the case stud issue). I think the zodiac would perform very well with the 3100cc, esp. out of high altitude fields which a concern for me. I think I have the skill (along with much help from my neighbor Jim) to pull the stroker off. Another issue is finding reasonable priced barrels for 92's. I am planning on using Brady's pistons but finding barrels alone, at least in 92mm is proving a challenge. Ironically, 94mm barrels are easy to find, but 92's alone, well, good luck. I really don't want to buy a piston/cylinder combo just to discard the pistons. Besides, I would have to buy two sets (8 total, VW variety). Seems like a waste, but then again, I'd have an extra jug or two when needed. So why might I not use this case? My neighbor Jim promised me a core that I can 'experiment' on. I guess it is always nice to have extra items in case you screw something up.
