Brief Description:  Finishing the Lexan

30/12/16

I drilled over sized holes to accept vinyl tubing 'washers'. These keep the screws from coming into contact with the Lexan and potentially cracking it.
1/4" spruce wedges are glued between the gussets to give the screws a solid 'bite'

UPDATE

I mounted the wings and filled both tanks with water for the weight and balance calculations yesterday. To drain them afterwards, I attached tubing to the outlets and turned both taps on which simulates fuel flow to the carburettors. What I saw was air bubbles in the outlet tubing and quickly discovered that the water in the clear tubing site gauge was sucked out by the flow of water past the tee intersection. Air from the top of the tank was then being sucked down the line and introduced into the running stream. Turning the tap off saw the water return to the normal level up the site gauge. Can't believe I didn’t think of it earlier but this is a good demonstration of the "Venturi Effect" and has no place in my fuel line set up.

AN806-2D flared tube plugs cap the top of the old site gauge. Loctite thread locker effectively glues them situ.

The tanks are translucent and I was able to see the water in them when seated in the cockpit so will use them as my fuel level indicators. The clear line site gauges are removed and the top outlets will be plugged.
