Brief Description:  Gear legs

I have made the gear legs twice now as the first pair were too long and too far forward (6" forward of station 2) for my liking when adding the 20" Huffy wheels. I went with the plans 17-1/2” height initially but then decided to go with 15” as when adding the Huffy wheels, the bottom of station 2 will be 25” above the ground.

I cut the top sleeve ends off and remade them so the new gear legs would line up 2" forward of station 2.

The temporary 5/8" tube between the axle tubes had to be 'machined' with the flap disk in order for it to fit inside the 3/4" x .062 axle tubes. I put the smallest of tack welds on to keep the axle tubes from moving. Once the legs were welded to the tubes I unscrewed the 5/8" length from the timber and ground the tack welds off hoping to just slide the legs off cleanly. Wrong. I had to 'machine' another piece of 5/8", heat the stuck piece from the inside and then drift it out.

Getting the geometry correct at the top and bottom, fishmouthing, checking, unbolting, more grinding work, rechecking, welding etc took much longer than I had planned however I am happy with the final result after doing it all over twice.
