Brief Description: Bending lower longerons
|

|
Before bending the lower longerons, I decided to elevate the structure on 1-3/4" timbers in order to be able to apply heat all around the 5/8" tubing but also to save the workbench from becoming a bonfire. Angle iron straight edge was drilled and bolted to the bench1/2" aft of the station 3 cross member which is hidden beneath it in the first pic. The diagonal to the left has been set back 1" from the cross member as I didn't want to bend the longerons right at the cluster join. The angle iron holds the front down whilst the rear is bent upwards. Timber was placed under station 4 to apply some upward pressure on the longerons before heating which softens the tubing enough to be bent up a little. More timber is added and the process repeated.
