Brief Description: Trial fuselage and engine weight
|
|
Having the bathroom scales at the factory I thought I'd weigh the fuselage purely out of interest as it is not really complete . ie no engine mount or tailwheel steering springs, partial cables, missing or wrong nuts and bolts, supports for the landing gear springs need to be welded etc...
40.8lbs on the main wheels when you subtract the weight of the timber. 14lbs on the tailwheel. Total fuselage - 54.8lbs.
Engine and me on the scales 244.8lbs. Take away my weight of 166.2lbs. The engine has carbs, filters and magneto and is 82.4lbs dry
Everything is only ballpark and just for curiosity at this stage and what I have so far is by no means complete.
Fuselage - 54.8lbs Engine - 82.4lbs Wings uncovered - 52lbs Wing struts - 6lbs Ailerons - 5.4lbs Empennage - 8.4lbs Fuel tanks - 13lbs
The total so far is 222.0lbs and this is without an engine mount, prop, fuel lines, instrumentation, windshield, fabric on wings or fuselage nose,
The one place where weight can be saved are the fuels tanks as I have two for endurance purposes. Most times I will be flying with one empty anyway. I am sure that making them myself out of ally or fibreglass would be a little lighter.
Will be interesting when I use proper scales for the final weight and balance.
