Brief Description:  Wing/aileron gap

Nov 28
The gap in the aileron section of the wing has to be filled to keep nesting critters out. The plans called for a straight length of 'form board' however I have found that for some reason, when the aileron is in place there is a need to concave the board so as to not be touching the rotating aileron. Rather than 'form board' I instead used some 0.8mm plywood cut to a 4" width. It had previously been rolled up for the leading edge so already had a curve. I ran a bead of Titebond III along the 1/4" x 1/4" timbers, 'snapped' the plywood into place on top of it and then ran another bead along the top of the plywood where it meets the edges.

Spent the remainder of the day masking both wings in preparation for varnishing.

I fit the aileron to the RH wing to discover that in trying to have the smallest gap possible, the aileron actually rubs towards full deflection both up and down. After mulling the options over the weekend the only choice was to remove the gap seals and start again. What a pain!
This time I cut the plywood 4-1/4" wide to create more curvature and had to 'snap' it into place on the inside of the wing before running the beads of glue along the length.
