With no press of my own I asked my mechanic Patrick who was happy too let me use his. A 50 ton press is overkill for this job and did it easily. The most the gauge read was 6 tons of downward force which was enough to cold bend the aluminium spring to the desired shape. The tailwheel is attached and the spring clamped in position. I sat on the rear fuselage, bounced it up and down noting the spring action. It passed the phase 1 test.
