Brief Description:  dropping the seat

Sept 26, 2016

I had planned to use a guillotine on the .016" aluminium to get a nice line. Tried the score and snap method which worked really well then just sanded the edges off.
The 8 long lengths were clamped under a piece of timber onto the workbench. The outer 2 were marked in 1" increments and the 14 cross pieces interwoven. I left overhanging ones where they needed to be folded over to avoid having a sharp edge facing upwards which would catch on things. Drilled through and into the workbench before placing and pulling 1/16" grip rivets.
Looks like a Legal Eagle seat and extremely light.

I have built the seat to plans dimensions but having clamped it in place and sat in it a few times, I have found it to be too high as my head will hit the underside of the wing. I have had to add 5" to the length of the top straps and an extra cross strap. Will test it for correct height when the wings go on for the weight and balance.
