Brief Description:  Wing/gear fittings (cont)

I originally thought each fitting would weld up against the tubing and everything would line up perfectly. Just had to heat and bend the fittings to be vertical below the fuselage…wrong.
It wasn't until I was holding the fitting in place taking a closer look at the plans that it was evident I'd need to be doing a little more work than that.
Page 23 of the XL plans (Gear Details) shows the top of the gear legs are welded to 7/8" long tubes. Bolts pass through these tubes to mount the gear legs to the fuselage fittings.
Quite some heating and bending was needed to get the fittings to start at 5/8" wide at the fuselage and out to 7/8" wide below.
Of course bending out to 7/8" moved the fitting away from the horizontal fuselage cross tube but when reading page 26 of the plans, it states "Bend edges to touch tube before welding" which now makes sense and in pic 2 & 3 you can kind of make out the edge bent in to touch the cross tube.
The clamped tube is pic 3 is just a 7/8" spacer for alignment purposes.
Took a total of 9 hours to do all 8 fittings!
