Brief Description:  Wing fittings

Cut the 1/8" thick aluminium into 1' wide strips and to the approximate lengths for the wing fittings using the angle grinder. Went through 3 x 1mm aluminium cutting disks for 16 fittings.

Drilled one each for the root and strut to the exact specifications and then rough ground around the tops and bottoms on the bench grinder to create the radius' and then onto the disk sander for the finer detail. Finally the perimeters and faces were sanded with a Scotch-Brite wheel for a smooth finish removing the potential for stress risers which can form in aluminium over time.

The root and strut fittings were then used as a templates for the remaining fittings which were clamped together and drill completely through with the drill press.

That grinder was my grand father's which he modified by adding the extension bar and drill chuck to accept wire wheels etc. Solid and smooth running, it has sentimental value.
