Brief Description:  Gusset removal

Gussets need to be removed so the compression ribs sit flush with and can be epoxied between the spars and where they touch the wing ribs.

Pic 1 is at wing rib # 3. This is where the the diagonal brace actually sits against the face of the cap instead of the on top as is the case elsewhere for the other diagonals allowing more room for the fuel tank. The compression rib therefore needs to also go between the face of the front and rear spar caps necessitating removal of the gussets to get a flat surface, A sharp chisel gets the job done but it does take time to do all of them and with hindsight I would have left the gussets off the one side of the ribs when building them.

Pic 2 & 3 show wing rib # 5. The compression ribs for the rest of the wing go on top of the caps so I only need to partially remove the gussets where these ribs touch the wing ribs and will eventually be epoxied to them as well as on top of the caps.

Have only done one side in the photo however there are double compression ribs at wing rib # 5

Also gently chiselled away epoxy overflow at the cap, vertical, rib intersection to prepare for the flat mating surface.

Cut all compression ribs for the wing.
