Brief Description:  Started front HS spar

Only a little bit of work tonight, started on the front HS spar. Got a late start, went to Roswell to Tijuana Joe’s for the regular Tuesday trivia contest, we came in fourth. First, drilled the two reinforcing angles to the spar halves, then laid out the bend lines and bent them 6° as called for on the plan. I drew a line with a 6° bend in AutoCAD, then plotted it on the printer and cut it out to use for a template. Then, the plan calls for the flange on the forward spar to be trimmed about an inch to allow the spar to be bent at a point farther from the end than it would be if used on an RV8. Apparently the same spar is furnished as for the 8, and probably the 7 fuse is a little wider at the point where the spar crosses. Just assuming that, I have not seen the fuse plans. In any case, it was a chance to try out the nibbler I bought a week or two ago, worked just like it’s supposed to. You have to drill and enlarge a relief hole at each end of the new bend line of the spar to avoid a stress concentration point. I got that done on one spar half, one more to do tomorrow.
