Brief Description:  Fitting the tank baffle to the spar

The reason I showed Dan Checkoway in absentia as a partner (I have never met the gentleman) was that he developed a better method, and placed it on his website, of fitting the tank baffle to the mounting angles that result in a perfect fit spanwise, without the possibility of having to drill and then elongate the holes in the baffle. I used his method, with some modifications. It basically consists of clecoing together the entire tank, mounting the attach angles to the spar, then mounting the entire tank in position, fitting it against the outer half of the leading edge and to the spar. This leaves the inboard end rib accessible to drill to the baffle and attach angle when the tank is in perfect alignment. I initially wanted to reuse the attach angles I had fitted before, but as can be seen, the holes did not line up correctly with the new ribs. So, I had to back up and redo the attach angles, which fortunately I had ordered along with the other new tank components.

After locating the tank on the new angles, I drilled the end rib and baffle to the inboard attach angle. Then the outboard leading edge was taken off the wing, giving access to the outboard tank rib and attach angle. They are then all match drilled to each other and to the tank baffle.
