Brief Description: Got top left main skins ready to rivet
Over the last several days, I have been trying to get the left wing ready to rivet on the top main skins. I had previously match drilled and deburred them and dimpled the ribs. I dimpled the top inboard and outboard skins, and filed down the front corners where the inboard and outboard skins overlap. After priming the inside of the skins near the edges, I clecoed them in place to await riveting in place permanently.
In the meantime, I also built up the aileron hinge brackets that will be riveted to the rear spar after the top skin is riveted. Some of the bracket pieces are similar before preparing, but are countersunk for flush rivets on different sides, to allow other parts to fit close to them. Of course, the first set I riveted together were similar but incorrect pieces, so one bracket was countersunk on both sides, and the other would have been countersunk on neither side if I had riveted it before discovering my error. So, after drilling out 5 1/8" rivets, and getting yelled at by the wife for hammering so late at night, I put them together the right way. They look neat.
