Brief Description:  Project background

This is a late posting. The project originally started in 2009 March.
I will try to update from material at hand (previous photos etc.) as I have time.

I always admired parasols and dreamed in flying in one. There are no flying parasols in Turkey so I decided to build one for myself. This aircraft is originally a Pietenpol Aircamper. Several modifications are made.

First, the dimensions are converted to metric. I used the old magazine plans and whatever is available on the internet and ended up with a slightly wider fuselage with more confortable seating, Starboard door for the front cockpit, 8990 mm (29.5 ft) wingspan. The airfoil is the orininal Pietenpol, trusses are more like Grega. Locally available wood is utilized, being careful in selection. Glue is WEST systems wood epoxy throughout. 1.5 mm aircraft grade plywoodis used fot the rib braces. 3 and 6 mm ply is/will be Okume marine ply (Lloyd certified). Until now, there are no nails or staples on the glue joints. Whereever possible, laser cutting and CNC bending is utilized. There are some modifications in the metal fittings also.

Project started at a friend's shop. When he gave up the shop, the project was moved to a bigger, better workshop. A while later, when this location proved inconvenient (too far from home), it was again moved to a closer, shared workshop. Smaller parts like ribs, empennage components are being built at my home workshop, which is a very small room. After I have done with these I will go to the shared workshop for assembly of wings, continuing fuselage etc.
