Brief Description:  Riveting Vertical Stab

Chapter 6 Empennage Date 1/15/00 Procedure VS-4 Skinning the vertical stabilizer. Finding the ribs thru the skin is the same technique as the horizontal stabilizer. After drilling one hole at the intersection of the forward spar and the rib the remaining hole are easy to locate. I used a rivet fan to equally space the holes on the rib. After all this work I disassemble the skins from the frame, de-burr and dimpled the skins and frame. I primed the inside of the skins and reassemble with clecos. I checked the alignment of the frame and skins. Now it time to rivet the skins on .I used the skin clamps from the builder manual they worked great to hold the skins on so I could place the clecos before riveting the skins. I used a bucking bar and rivet gun for the middle part of the stabilizer and an squeezer for the outside edge. (Image) 07,08&014
