Brief Description:  Upper Engine Mounts

Ground the outboard upper corner to avoid the flute in the firewall. Measured (thought I did) and drilled two1/8" holes, placed the mount on the longeron and realized that if I enlarged the hole to 3/16th, as required,I would violate the edge distance to the inboard edge of the aluminum longeron, which is underneath the engine mount. To make it work and be in compliance the hole could not be enlarged any further to the inboard side, the expansion of the hole would have to take place to the outboard side. So I have a tool called a Snatch Block (Brown Tool) that allows you to move the hole one direction or another. If you buy the tool you should also buy the bushings you would use the most-1/8,5/32,3/16,1/4,5/16,3/8 becuz when you need this tool YOU NEED IT.It gets clamped in place using a extra long hex nut cleco (you have to either have another hole to clamp it through or drill an extra hole which you could later fill with a rivet,in this case I had the other 1/8" pilot hole to clamp through so I used a 1/8" long cleco).Final size for the hole is 3/16",so I selected the 3/16" bushing. You then line up the edge of the hole in the bushing,on the edge of the hole that you don't want to expand further, make sure its ultra tight and drill through the bushing.Obviously this only works when you're enlarging the hole.Mostly I go to final hole size and do not step drill because I use sharp bits, but with steel or critical parts I always step drill. To move the other 1/8" pilot hole I now used a 3/16" long cleco through the hole I had just moved and repeated the process.Without this tool the drill bit would always want to center on the pilot hole, but the bushing and the tightness at which it's clamped make the drill bit go where you want it to,so you end up with just the proper edge distance. I also drilled an extra hole to make for 3 bolts for added strength. Brown Tool also has the extra long hex nut clecos.
