Brief Description:  Starting over

OK, so I screwed up this elevator skin way back when I first started, made the mistake of riveting the ribs BEFORE hanging the elevator on the H stab...and there was a twist. So I ordered a new skin and ribs 4,5 and 6 w/o holes.

So I started over today, first deburring everything I could and clecoing in the ribs on the front side (2 holes). Had to drill 4, 5 and 6...so I put all ribs in position, made sure the trailing edge was flat and also drilled two holes in 4, 5 and 6 to hold them in position so I could get the front holes drilled....clecoed and flipped over on the 2"angle supports to keep the clecos off the table.

Low and behold there is still a slight twist in this skin. I know its a hard part to make but this pisses me off, I had to buy a new one because the holes in ribs 5 and 6 in my previous were off slightly.

So I'm being extra cautious. I removed the clescos on rib one, wieghted the skin down and could see that with the skin flat the holes were just slightly off, but that was enough to create a near 8MM lift of the trailing edge. So with the skin weighted down and flat I drilled one new hole between two of the others...I'll end up adding one more and when it comes time to rivet, I'll river these first then upsize the other holes to A5 and eleiminate the problem. Check out the pics to see the difference in the trailing edge.
