Bad news in the Elevator department...I have a twist in the skin. A couple of the pre drilled holes in the ribs were off ever so slightly, but it doesn't take much to translate to a 10mm difference at the other end. I made several mistakes which prevented me from being able to save it. When I originally laid out the parts I checked to see if the holes in the skin lined up with the ribs and they did...on top. I never checked the bottom...big mistake.
The other major error which turned a very fixable problem into an unfixable, was that I riveted the parts together BEFORE hanging it on the stabilizer to ensure straightness. Had I hung the Elevator while in clecos, I would have noted the twist and been able to simply drill new holes in ribs 5 and 6 or order two new ribs without holes from Zenith.
I started drilling out all the rivets but it quickly became apparent that I wouldn't be happy with the end result, so I shit canned it and ordered new parts. On to the wings while I wait for the Elevator parts.
