Brief Description: made cutouts for HS in aft fuselage
This took a while for two seemingly simple cuts. I took my time laying it all out and double checking. Glad I did. Manual calls for front of right HS spar tab to be 11 7/16" from LE. Cut lines are measured in reference to this line. My actual R spar was 11 9/16"...off by an eigth to manual. Cut front L side first, then fit the spar to the fuselage. Did it this way because I figured if it was off by my 1/8" adjustment this would be the easiest to remedy.
Cut R side in similar manner and did a rough test fit. Both sides look pretty good.
Will add attach brackets next session and that will be the real fit test.
Just proves a builder must think through what they are doing and not just follow the manual. Learned that lesson many times on the Lancair build.
I think the manual instructions would be better if it started with taking the LE to spar measurement and then referencing all cut lines from there, rather than an absolute measurement that turns out to be wrong.
