Brief Description:  Burraway De-burring Tool

A few weeks ago, I read one of the forums (I think it was a VANS forum) that mentioned this tool. I did some research and found out that two of the major aircraft manufacturers (the manufacturer wouldn't say which ones) use this tool. The tool mounts in a drill and you use it like you would use a drill bit. The #30 sized tool shaft fits "perfectly" in a #30 hole (no chatter). The spring-loaded blade (see closeup of tip) deburrs the top side of the hole, and as the tool is pressed, the blade retracts and pops out on the bottom side of the hole. When you pull the tool back out, it deburrs the bottom side of the hole. Neat! I was concerned that the deburring action would put a chamfer on the edges of the hole, but I am pleased with the results. There is no more of a chamfer than what occurs when you "manually" deburr a hole with a larger drill bit. One thing that the manufacturer mentioned (that was not mentioned on the forum) is to get what is called a "neutral rake" blade when you order the Burraway (they are normally supplied with blades that are "not neutral"). Apparently the neutral rake blade is designed for deburring aluminum. It makes deburring fun!
