Brief Description:  Checked Fit, Operation on Trim Tab Hinges

After the 3 hinge "halves" (left, center and right) were mounted to the stabilator rear spar I mated each hinge with its counterpart that will eventually mount on the trim tab. I inserted the hinge pin to mate the two halves. This allowed me to check the fit and verify that the hinge operated smoothly and without any interference.

I discovered that the hinge pieces that will eventually mount on the trim tab were slightly rubbing on the hinge doubler pieces that were mounted on the rear stabilator spar. Upon closer examination I found that the hinge doublers were protruding very slightly aft of the rear spar edge--just enough to barely scrape on the hinge pieces that will mount on the trim tab. I removed the hinge doublers (3 places, left , center and right) and filed down about 1/32" of material from the edge that mounted to the rear spar. After re-assembly I could see that the edges of the hinge doublers were flush with the edge of the rear spar. The hinge pins were re-inserted and I verified that the hinges now operate freely and do not rub on the hinge doublers.
