Brief Description:  Panel covering - pseudo carbon fiber

Before I install the control cables (cabin heat, choke & throttle), I wanted to get the panel covered. I bought the 3M carbon fiber vinyl stick on covering. I also used the 3M primer for better adhesion and my wife’s hair dryer to stretch over the sides. I started with a practice piece and even tried different techniques to get the holes back in. That went well so I moved onto the right panel. The first try, with the map box door installed ended up a mess. So I pulled that off and drilled out the map box door rivets. This went much easier and I was able to match the pattern on the door. I also ordered some black screws and black washers to complete the look. Once I got the panel covered I figured out the best way to get the holes back through the vinyl. I first poked a hole through the vinyl at each screw hole in the panel, and then I put the drill on high speed with a #27 drill bit. Then the key was to run it in reverse while pushing it through the vinyl at each hole location. Running it revers helped to keep the drill bit from trying to pull up on the vinyl. This seemed to work well for all the screw holes. Next is the middle and left panels.
