Ok this was interesting. I was progressing very quickly with the avionics install, then I hit a little bit of a puzzle. I haven’t had to deal with radio installs or removals before, so I was unfamiliar with how to remove the tray from the GTR200. I could see the latch built into the radio, but it had a tight grip on the tray and it wasn’t obvious to me how to loosen it. I read the instructions that came with the radio, but nothing about removing the tray. I searched the internet and forums and nothing about the tray removal. I was about to give up and call Garmin, but I was talking to a fellow pilot and he mentioned that there must be a way to install the radio and remove the radio from the front panel…that’s when it clicked in my mind to check the front panel and there it was…a small access hole. Well with a little more reading from some of the online manuals I found a section that describes (no pictures or diagrams), how to use a 3/32 Allen wrench through a small hole in the radio front panel to loosen the latch. Now it makes sense…so easy. I also notice that the kit only came with 4 AN507-6R8 screws, but the figure and instructions clearly require 6. I noticed that this has been updated from previous versions which used to call out AN507-6R6, so I used two of those and ordered some more of the 6R8 screws. I sent in a question to Vans, but no response yet.
