Brief Description:  Finish fairings and prep for paint

Ok, a lot of work here, but not many pictures to show for it. My deadline to get ready for May 6th paint day is fast approaching and met with some additional challenges. My son Scott (oldest) is getting married out of town (St. Gorge, UT), which means I will either need to drop off the plane early or wait till I get back. Looking at the weather, it looks like Saturday (4/27) is my best option for clear skies, but way earlier than expected. So, I take a day off from work to get everything done. I finally managed to finish the wheel fairings and proceeded to improve the canopy fit. Since the beginning I was never able to get it to fit without adding 2 thick washers under the pivot bolt, which pushes the fwd section outward and messes up the contour flow of the transition from body to canopy. I finally was able to reduce it down to one washer under each pivot bolt by sliding in some sand paper at the pinch points while trying to close the canopy. After awhile I was able to smoothly close the canopy and it looks a little better. Next, I just started sanding the high spots in the fiberglass down until it was as smooth as the transitions looked good. Unfortunately, I was a little over zealous and sanded down to the foam in spot about the size of a quarter…not good. I was out of time and the winds in Smoketown, PA were not looking good for Saturday. I added some fiberglass and epoxy and built the area back up, but it would not be completely dry by the time I needed to leave…good enough, I’ll just sand it in the morning.
