Brief Description:  Remove and paint main gear legs (35)

While I was waiting for the new nose gear fairing I went ahead and took the plunge to totally dismantle the main gear in order to paint them. It was really tough to take a plane that was flying great and is now unflyable. On top of that Spring is here in Ohio and the weather was supper nice this week. I heard everybody, and their brother out flying, while I was stuck in the hanger tearing things apart. The hot air balloons were even out, which means nice calm winds and clear skies. Well I rigged up a way to support the plane without the gear and pulled each one off. I think my directions at the time I originally installed the legs, did not mention anything about painting the gear. Well after several months out at the hanger my formerly flying airplane was showing signs of corrosion on the main gear. I asked the paint shop to paint them to match, but they were not going to be able to get up inside the fuselage cavities nor the lower section that will be blocked by brackets, wheels, brakes and bolts. While I was working on the One Week Wonder last year at Oshkosh (2018), I snapped a few pictures of the painted gear on the RV-12is. So, I stopped by the paint store and picked up some very white gloss paint (PPG concept) and painted the gear this weekend. I am hoping this will come close to matching the Imron Snow White that we picked out for the bottom of the plane. I also took the opportunity to paint the fairing brackets, know that there will be times that I fly without fairings, plus this should protect them from corrosion. Monday, I get to put it all back together (hopefully). I still want to paint the front fork, but wanted to wait until I get all the parts so I can paint them as well.
