Brief Description:  Flight to paint shop

It's been awhile since I posted anything, but I've been calling around to several paint shops trying to figure out price and timing. Of course, the shop that's closest to me is the most expensive. I had a hoped to get it painted before Oshkosh, but all the shops were busy until later in the year. Well while we were on spring break, Lancaster Aero called and said that had an opening in May, so of course I jumped on it. This was one of the 2 shops that I was thinking about and on the referral list from Scheme Design. Now I’m scrambling to get the paint ready for paint. I need to get wheel fairings complete and the canopy sanded. First, I wanted to check out the paint shop and make sure the plane and pilot were ready to make a cross country trek from Cincinnati, OH to Lancaster, PA. It was a perfect day with light winds and sunny skies. I topped off the tank and mapped direct to (almost exactly East) and headed out at 8 in the morning. The winds were more favorable at 11,500 ft, so I did a cruise climb to altitude and set the auto pilot. It was a little cool in the morning, but smooth air and the plane flew great (109 TAS @ 5200rpm). A little over 3 hours later I was descending down to pattern altitude for Smoketown, PA. I landed with about 4 gal in the tank. I talked with the team there at Lancaster Aero and asked what I need to do to prep the plane and decided on colors. The flight back was great as well, but the air was a little rough down low, but winds were worst up high, so I chose 6,500 on the way back, but had to stop for fuel about 30 min out from home to give me some margin. So now I have a little over a month to get the plane ready.
