Brief Description:  Weight & Balance (PAP - G7)

Well I’ve scheduled a time slot tomorrow to get the plane weighed by the local A&P on the field here at I68 (Warren County), so I spent a few hours getting the plane all together so the weight would be right. I had already drained all the fuel out except what was in the lines, figuring that didn’t count as usable fuel. I also had the data plate engraved at a local trophy shop and the step powder coated. I lucked out on the powder coating…I called up a shop and they had a run going through with satin black, so I dropped them off and they were ready the next day. They came out nice and I put in a couple plastic plugs from Lowes in to the ends.
An interesting thing happened as I arrived at the airport…my buddy Joe, who has been just ahead of me in the build, and just got his air worthiness approval last week, had his plane outside the hanger. He had already started for the runway, by the time I got out of my car, so I grabbed my camera and walked out to the edge of the taxi way. I thought, is he going to take it up today. It was a nice day, calm winds, right down the runway, beautiful fall sky and there were a couple balloons getting ready to lift off. Well he actually did it. He made a couple high speed taxi runs to get the feel for it in ground effect and on the third time he took it up, made a nice circuit around the pattern and a beautiful landing. I caught up with him as he taxied back to the hanger (right across from mine) and got the RV grin money shot. There was no one around and he didn’t even know I was there until he got back…he just decided to do it. I hope my first flight goes as smoothly…in a few weeks, I hope.
Back to my plane: With the help of Cyndi, we checked and adjusted the cable tension and secured the turn buckles. Then I was ready to button up all the access panels. I tried to get some pictures inside each panel, in case that was sufficient for the inspection. I didn’t realize how many screws go in to getting all those panels installed. I also installed the data plate.
