Brief Description:  Throttle and choke cables (50-02)

The throttle cable was a little challenging since I have the older panel which makes it impossible to rotate the nut to secure the handle. You end up having to rotate the handle, so with the help of Cyndi and both of use twisting the cable/handle I was able to get it tightened down. It’s also a little bit of a bear to get all those cables through the grommet, but it is doable. Everything went pretty smooth from this point on and I installed the new throttle springs. I ran into a slight challenge with the choke cable on the right side. The end got a little frayed and I couldn’t get it into the swivel. I tried several techniques to clean up the end and nothing was working and the cable kept getting shorter and shorter. Finally I used a torch to heat the cable and added solder to the end. Then I ground down the end until it was smooth and thin (now stray wires sticking out). That seemed to work, but you have to make sure the grinding wheel rotation doesn’t try to pry the wire ends out and make it worse. The part of the wheel that’s touching the cable end should be rotating away from the cable end and not towards it. Everything seems to be working now. I still need to go in and seal some spots on the firewall, trim the cables and RTV some locations to keep from rubbing. I’m getting close to start walking through the PAP prior to first engine start.
