I didn’t loosen the cables, it was fairly easy to remove without loosening, but it may be more difficult to re-attach. I first secured them with some safety wire fwd of the turnbuckle to make sure it didn’t fall back into the empennage. Note the screw driver attachment to the safety wire. Then once the bolts were out I added some string. I also taped up the cotter pins on the VS bolts after doing a number on my knuckles. Removing the HS was quite a challenge. It took three of us, to on each side and me trying to get my too large hands into the tin space to slide the bolts out. I had to rotate the bolts out as much as possible then I could get a small wrench underneath the bolt head to pry/tap it out the rest of the way. You have to be careful not to dig the HS into the side of the empennage. I added some tape to keep from scratching it up (too bad). Good thing it’s not painted yet.
