Brief Description:  Radiator hose install (49-07)

The upper hose was fairly easy to install. I trimmed the end at the attachment to the radiator to be at an angle to better fit onto the radiator and pull it away from some of the wires. The lower hose was a little tricky, with trying to get the cushion clamp installed with the AN3-3A bolt into the landing gear tube. I ended up using some safety wire to hold the cushion clamp closed enough to engage the threads of the bolt without much force. I also had to add a nut into my socket so the bolt would sit out a little more in the socket…enough to get the threads started (tape helped keep the bolt in the socket). Once the threads were engaged, I cut the safety wire and removed it. It took a little while, but this worked pretty good. The next challenge was to attach the hose to the engine, which would have been easy if I had really tinny hands and skinny arms. After struggling for a little bit I managed to get the tube on and clamped down. The next challenge was getting the overflow hose installed. I don’t know how it was expected that it would slide over either nipple from the expansion chamber or the overflow bottle, but that took a lot of effort. It helped a little to use increasing larger objects (non-fluted side of drill bits) to try and enlarge the opening a little. Anyway it’s done. I started the next section (49-08), but then quickly realized that I really need the avionics in order to install the cabin heat cable. For now it’s attached and routed through the firewall, but the rest will have to wait. I’ll skip and proceed with the oil cooler box assembly next (49-11).
