I spent a few minutes wondering how I was going to make a 9.5” hinge pin (with 1” bend) from a 8.5” stock pin that came with the hinge. After reading through the inventory list a few times I realized a longer pin was already included with the kit…whew. I gut the hinges down to size and bent the hinge pin as directed. I clamped the short hinge tot eh door and used the door pre drilled holes to match drill the #40 holes in the hinge. This worked out ok, since the door was also stainless steel. Segway into the next step…drill the other half of the hinge using the aluminum frame as a guide to match drill the #30 holes. I thought that if I used the aluminum frame to start drill the holes then I could unclamp and finish them up without enlarging the aluminum frame holes. Well this didn’t work at all. The drill seemed to go where it wanted and the holes (when drilled through) didn’t line up. So it was back to Van’s to order some new parts. Turns out the 8.5” steel hinge doesn’t show up on any online parts ordering list, so I ended up calling them directly and it is supposed to be on its way. In the meantime I will move onto some of the next steps.
