Brief Description: Finish lower cowl close out (38-09)
The instructions say to line up the aft edge of the close out with the aft edge of the lower cowling, but this put the opening slot right up against the landing gear. So I enlarged the opening a little, figuring the landing gear will wiggle and flex during landing. I also shifted it aft so now it overhangs the cowling by about a ¼”. With the close out back on I marked the firewall flange holes, and then I removed everything to drill the holes. Once everything was drilled, I then reinstalled the lower cowling and top cowling. I even hopped in the plane to check it for fit…it fits just fine. I did notice the garage seems to be getting smaller. Next is to go back and finish the spinner. Also, I went ahead and ordered the new reinforced front landing gear fork. I read enough stories online that made me think it was prudent insurance.
