Brief Description:  Attach oil access door (38-08)

It was easy enough to attach the hinge hardware to the door. Then I used dust tape to position the door and drill the ¼” holes for the twist locks. Next the instructions call to final size the holes to ½”, but that wouldn’t leave much material between the hole and the main opening, so I opted to leave it one size smaller on the step drill (which matches the twist lock cam opening just fine). Then to drill the #40 holes for the twist lock cams, I installed them on the outside with the twist knob on the inside. Once the cams were riveted in place I attached the hinge as directed (reverse the bolt to get access to the attach holes). To drill the holes in the canopy I placed a flashlight in the engine area then placed the door and hinge in place and drilled the holes to the shadow holes of the hinge (make sure to cleco before drilling the other holes). I ended up pushing the door a little too far aft and too high (towards center) in the recess area, which caused the hinge to bind up some with the edge of the fiberglass access hole. So I ended up sanding it down a little for added clearance. It may still need some work to prevent rubbing the paint eventually, but for now it seems to fit nicely.
